Denied Health Insurance
What to do if you’re denied health insurance?
So, you’ve tried approaching all the major insurance carriers, and due to certain pre-existing medical conditions, you’ve been denied health insurance in the state of Florida. You’re desperate for insurance because you’re aware of the deep hole in your pocket medical care can cause, but with your medical history, it seems almost impossible to get any care in Florida.
Fortunately, there are few alternatives that you can try:
Firstly, if you’ve recently left your job (i.e., within the past two months), you might be eligible for insurance under the COBRA scheme. Please read this FAQ by the US government to see if you’re eligible for coverage under COBRA, which is essentially a continuation of your group insurance.
If you’re not eligible for insurance under the COBRA scheme, you might try for insurance under the HIPPA program. To learn more about the HIPPA program, you can go to the HIPPA website at HIPPA.org. Also, read our article on Florida State Health Insurance to understand how the HIPPA scheme works.
You can also look at temporary insurance if you’re anticipating treatment in the immediate future. These temporary health insurance plans often don’t ask for height or weight and only look back three years at your medical history. They have higher premiums though and are recommended for desperate situations only.
Finally, if you’ve been denied health insurance from all possible sources, you might consider enrolling as a full time student in a state university. For full time students, a certain carrier offers a health insurance plan in Florida that does not ask any health questions. You can drop the course after a month, and keep the insurance plan until you’re 65.
